What is Permanent Makeup (PMU)?
Permanent makeup, also known as cosmetic semi-permanent tattooing, involves using specialized tools to apply pigment to the skin, enhancing your natural features. Popular services include microblading, powder brows, eyeliner, and lip blush. The results are semi-permanent and can last for months to years, depending on skin type and aftercare.
How long does a PMU session take?
The length of the session depends on the service. Microblading usually takes about 2-2.5 hours, while powder brows and combo brows can take up to 2.5-3 hours. If requested, a consultation prior to the session is available, which typically lasts around 15 minutes.
Does it hurt?
Most clients report minimal discomfort, describing it as a small scratch or slight irritation during the procedure. We use a topical numbing cream to ensure you’re comfortable throughout the session. The sensation varies depending on the area being treated, but we do everything we can to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
I'm debating just booking the service. What do I need to do BEFORE the appointment?
To ensure the best results from your microblading or powder brow appointment, please follow these guidelines:
1 Week Before: 🚫 Avoid waxing or tweezing your brows. 🚫 Skip products with Vitamin C, AHA, BHA, peels, exfoliants, or retinol.🛑 Avoid any intense exfoliation or skincare treatments.
3 Days Before: 🚫 Stop taking NSAIDs (like Aleve, ibuprofen, or aspirin), as they can thin the blood.
Day of Your Appointment: ☕ Skip caffeine—it can increase bleeding and sensitivity during the procedure. 🚫 Do not wear makeup on your eyebrow area. 🧴 Come with a clean face free of oils or heavy skincare products.
Following these steps will help ensure the best possible results and a smooth healing process!
How long does Permanent Makeup last?
The longevity of PMU varies based on factors such as skin type, medications, lifestyle, and aftercare. On average, microblading lasts 1-3 years, while powder brows can last 2-4 years. To keep your brows looking fresh, touch-ups are recommended every 12-24 months. Keep in mind that oily skin, certain medications, and sun exposure can cause the results to fade more quickly. Some people retain pigment longer than others and some people don't retain pigment well, therefore requiring more frequent touch-ups.
What is the healing process like?
After your PMU procedure, you may experience some redness and slight swelling, which usually subsides within a few hours. Healing takes about 7-10 days, during which your brows will peel and fade slightly. It's important not to touch the brows or pick at any scabs to avoid affecting the healing process. A follow-up touch-up is often needed to perfect the results and ensure long-lasting beauty.
How do I prepare for my PMU appointment?
To ensure the best results, please follow these guidelines in the days leading up to your appointment:
Avoid alcohol or caffeine 24 hours before your session.
Refrain from sun exposure and tanning.
No waxing or tweezing the brows 3-5 days prior.
Stop using acid serums (like Vitamin C), retinols, or exfoliating peels 1 week before.
Do not get Botox or injections within 1 month before or after your treatment.
If you're receiving eyeliner or lip blush, avoid using harsh skincare products on those areas prior to your appointment.
Following these steps will help your skin stay healthy and ensure optimal results!
How do I book an appointment?
You can easily book an appointment by clicking the "Book Now" button or by contacting us directly. We offer online booking for your convenience, and our Perfect Arch Consultation is a great first step to ensure we’re on the same page before your PMU session.
What is the Perfect Arch Consultation?
The Perfect Arch Consultation is a great pre-session discussion where we discuss your desired look, assess your natural features, answer your questions, and create a customized plan for your PMU procedure. This helps us ensure that we’re aligned on your expectations and that the results will enhance your unique beauty.
Do you offer touch-ups?
Yes! A touch-up is essential for ensuring long-lasting results! Whether it's an annual touch up or your 6-8 week touch up after your first session, this color boost is wonderful. During this session, we’ll refine the shape, fill in any color gaps, and adjust the tone if necessary. This helps ensure your PMU remains vibrant and defined.
Can I get Permanent Makeup if I have sensitive skin?
Usually, yes! However, it’s important to let us know if you have any skin conditions or sensitivities, as this could affect the results. We will assess your skin during the pre-treatment consultation and may adjust the technique or pigment accordingly.
Are your pigments safe?
Absolutely! We use only the highest-quality pigments that are specifically designed for permanent makeup. All pigments are hypoallergenic, additive-free, heavy metals-free, and vegan-friendly. We ensure everything meets the highest safety and hygiene standards for your peace of mind.
What happens if I don’t like the results?
While PMU is semi-permanent, the results can be adjusted through touch-ups. If you have any concerns, please let us know, and we can refine the shape, color, or intensity to better match your preferences. Often, I can also incorporate different techniques to achieve your desired look. In the future, I hope to offer tattoo removal services as well. Your satisfaction is our priority!
Can I wear makeup after my PMU session?
You should avoid wearing makeup over your treated areas until fully healed (usually 7-10 days). We recommend no makeup, water, sweating, or heavy exercise for the first 24 hours, and it's best to avoid these for 7 days if possible. Additionally, avoid sun exposure during the healing process. After healing, you can resume wearing makeup, but we recommend using gentle, non-comedogenic products and always applying SPF to protect your treated areas. We will provide detailed aftercare instructions and a high-quality healing cream to ensure the best results.
How do I know which PMU technique is best for me?
Choosing the right technique depends on your unique skin type, desired look, and lifestyle. During your Perfect Arch Consultation or at your service appointment, we’ll evaluate your natural features, skin type, and preferences to determine the best approach. For example, microblading isn’t recommended for oily skin (depending on the severity), so we may suggest Nano Brows, Combo Brows, or Powder Brows for the best long-lasting results. My philosophy is "less is more", which means we’ll start with a more subtle approach and, if necessary, we can always add more definition during your follow-up touch-up. This ensures that your look remains natural and customizable, and that you're confident every step of the way.
I'm worried that my PMU will turn blue or gray over time. Will that happen?
It's a common concern, but rest assured, I take every step to ensure the pigments used are specifically chosen to match your skin tone and undertones, which helps prevent any unwanted color shifts. Color fading is a natural part of the healing process, but with proper pigment selection and technique, the results should remain soft, natural, and flattering. Pigments used for brows, eyeliner, and lips are designed to fade gracefully into natural tones, without turning blue or gray. During your Perfect Arch Consultation, we'll assess your skin's undertones to choose the perfect pigment for you.
To maintain the best results, it's essential to follow aftercare instructions carefully. This includes limiting sun exposure and always wearing SPF on the treated area. Sun damage can cause pigments to fade faster or shift in color. If you're still concerned, we can always color adjustments during your follow-up touch-up to ensure you're completely happy withe results. My approach is also "less is more", starting with subtle, natural color that we can build upon during your touch-up if desired.
Will my PMU fade over time? How much will it fade?
Yes, it's completely normal for PMU to fade over time. Typically, you can expect to retain about 50-80% of the color from the day of your appointment. Several factors influence how much the pigment fades, such as skin type, aftercare, SPF usage, and lifestyle. For example, oily skin may cause the pigment to fade more quickly, while mature skin (40+ years old) and normal/combination skin tend to hold pigment more effectively.
This is why we recommend annual touch-ups to refresh and maintain your look. Touch-ups help keep the color vibrant and the shape defined, ensuring you always look your best. Proper aftercare—such as following the instructions carefully, using sunscreen, and avoiding excessive sun exposure—is key to preserving your PMU for as long as possible. If any fading occurs beyond the expected range, your follow-up touch-up will allow us to refine and adjust the results to your satisfaction.
What if we determine at my touch-up appointment that I don't need any touch-up?
If we determine that no touch-up is necessary during your follow-up appointment, you will not be charged. However, as my approach is "less is more" during the initial session, it’s common for some areas to need a bit of filling in. If desired, we can also deepen the color or make adjustments to enhance the definition and longevity of your brows. Every client’s healing process is unique, and I want to ensure you leave with results that make you feel confident and thrilled with your look.
